Nurse - The Dental Nurse's Role
A Dental Nurse prepares the surgery before the arrival of the patient, getting the appropriate instruments ready and collecting the clinical notes.
During treatment the Dental Nurse assists the Dentist by passing instruments, mixing materials and taking accurate notes from the oral instructions given by the Dentist.
The Dental Nurse will also make sure that patients are comfortable at all times and help them relax during the dental operations. Once the patient has left the chair the Dental Nurse tidies the surgery and sterilises all the instruments to prepare for the next patient.
Sometimes, particularly in general practice, the Dental Nurse also helps with reception work - making appointments, taking payments, dealing with the paperwork and most important of all, meeting and reassuring patients.
