The GDC is the regulatory body of the dental profession. It protects the public by means of its statutory responsibilities for dental education, registration, professional conduct and health. It supports Dentists and Dental Auxiliaries in the practice of dentistry and encourages their continuing professional development.

The British Dental Association is the national professional association for Dentists. It strives to

- improve the nation’s oral health
The British Dental Association is one of the largest dental associations in Europe. It is the trade union and professional association representing 18,000 Dentists in the UK. The majority of BDA members are Dentists in general dental practice working within the NHS General Dental Services and privately. The Association also represents Dentists in the Hospital dental services, the Community dental services, in Universities, in the Armed Forces and in Industry.
